Fun but formulaic.

I thought it was fun. I mean, it wasn't GREAT, and at times it was downright dumb (using a song to defeat the enemy!?), but it was entertaining. Entertaining enough.

There wasn't really any character development here. We don't really get to know these people. They just kind of go on this adventure and lo and behold, they all make it to the end of the film.

Just watching it, you can already tell what's going to happen. Oh, look an old motorcycle; gee guess what the main character is going to use? Oh, look a neat device that the bad guy is holding. Hm, wonder how the main bad guy is gonna die? This happened a lot with this movie. But - it was still fun to watch. Sort of a Star-Trek-lite film.

Yeah, agreed. I liked it better than STID, but not as much as the first made with this cast, and certainly not as well as some of the best with the original cast. About on a par with the best "Next Generation" film, First Contact.

That's a good comparison - you're right - I had the same vibe/feel about First Contact. Fun but, well, shallow?

Nice pithy summary.
