My Idea for a Star Trek spin-off that doesn't focus on Starfleet.

I'd like to see them make a Star Trek show that doesn't revolve around Starfleet, but civilian characters so show what civilian life in the Federation is like and offer a new perspective by featuring a cast of characters not so bound by honor and duty like Starfleet officers. My idea would take place some time after the TNG era (I was a 90's kid, so TNG, DS9 and Voyager were the shows I grew up watching, and I always hoped they would start continue on with new stories that timeline)and would involve a civilian vessel and civilian crew. The main character would be a small time human smuggler living on Risa, the youngest son of a family of Starfleet officers, who obeyed his father's (a well respected Starfleet admiral) wishes not to pursue a career in Starfleet after members of the family we're lost in the battle of Wolf 359 and the Dominion War. Having grown disillusioned with life of Earth, he decides to seek out adventure on his own by become a smuggler and relocates to Risa where he sets up his base of operations. His ship would be a non-federation starship but still designed on Earth only capable of Warp 6, and would feature a small but diverse crew, all civilians with scientific, military, and criminal backgrounds.
