Is Star Trek really a "superior future"?

Yeah, we got spaceships. Whoopity doo.

But there's an endless stream of killers, maniacs, psychopaths, terrorists, and general dicks who hate everything and want to blow stuff up and kill everybody.

Star Trek is a sort of morality epic. Its not really about showing a future of utopia and utter peace... where is the drama there?

Star Trek is about showing us what we can be, what we dont want to be...

Star Trek always taps into the present day issues and realities. So yes, explosions, terrorists and nutjobs is probably the logical plots points.

It depends which iteration. TNG was really the only one to go that direction deeply.
