Fire Paramount's bad marketing team of a good film

They misfired badly on the first trailer. The most recent ad in the past few days basically gives away the entire plot. Whoever is leading marketing needs to be fired. The movie is good but the marketing has been horrible

Review from someone I saw:
"I?m also a Trekkie, saw the film last night and loved it. Lin?s love of the franchise is PALPABLE (whereas Abrams has said over and over that he didn?t grow up loving Star Trek, but only came to love the franchise after working on it), and the film feels like an oversized, really good episode of The Original Series. But with the ability to curse more and with better special effects. :) If you?re a Trek fan, and you were disappointed by Into Darkness, this is the movie that will give you hope in the film franchise again. It really does FEEL like Trek. Don?t let trailers cut by marketing people make that decision for you. :). "

Sadly, the trailer revealed how bad of a movie it really was. Everyone saw the Tae Kwon Do fighting white alien and saw red flags. This is not Trek.

Whatever they were trying to do, they didn't pull it off.

The movie is way better than how this marketed

yeah, the movie is great. Much better than the trailer. Hopefully good word of mouth will keep this one afloat.

It seems people really were turned off by Into Darkness (even if I quite enjoyed it).

Good point. The lower weekend is also reflective of the damage Into Darkness did. People didn't like Into Darkness plus this new one wasn't marketed well

Don't worry, they're all on here shilling for the film.

Still don't get that dirt trailer got made

reply

I'd say the marketing has been quite accurate: Big explosions, Beastie Boys, and alien kung fu.

The marketing has been horrible for the film
Trying to argue that the first trailer is foreshadowing is asinine. It was a horrifically damaging trailer that is the main reason most people didn't even consider seeing it

They were definitely grasping for a new audience with that first trailer, which was pure adrenaline and foregrounded Lin's F&F pedigree.

But I would also argue that the finished film is in large part the fun 'n' dumb popcorn entertainment that was portrayed. Bottom line: I don't feel it wholly misrepresented the movie.

Recent Forbes article basically says the same thing. The movie is very good but the marketing was horrible

Whoever marketed this movie did a terrible job and should never be allowed to market movies again
