Star wars box office

Yes I know Star Wars makes a ton of money even if the films are garbage people still pay to watch light sabres in action. Anyway rant over interesting find.. Star Wars Force awakens made over $832 million domestically after 29 days compared to Rogue 1 at $489 million. That's $343 million less!! Yet no one bats an eyelid

Rogue One is a prequel and doesn't star Han Solo, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker. It also didn't tell us a new story so its not as much as a 'must see' as TFA. This is a silly argument. TFA was the first sequel to the OT in 30 years of course its going to be bigger. RO is big but its just a story about stealing the Death Star plans and everyone already knew the ending to that before they saw it because it was all in the crawl in ANH.

TFA had crazy hype for a reason, it was a reboot of the entire universe but with familiar characters. RO is the universe we were introduced to 40 years ago but with mostly unknown characters. Apples and oranges.

I was merely pointing out such a huge box office discrepancy being as Star Trek has taken such a pasting from the box office militia

RO will make over a billion dollars. Beyond only made a third of that and they had basically the same budget. Thats the huge box office discrepancy. RO may not be as big as TFA but its still a big hit and Beyond is still a big dud. So comparing it is kind of silly dude.

I mean if you picked out duds like Ghostbusters, Ben Hur or Passengers to Beyond than OK.

People will go and watch any old garbage if it has Star Wars in the title. Not that Rogue One was garbage. But the prequel trilogy still made money.

Star Trek has always been a more niche audience, even the reboots.
