For Make up (no FX nom this time -woudve thought so with Yorktown and Ent destruction)

ST09 got 4 nominations (soundx2, FX, makeup and won best makeup. STID was nominated for FX)

Strange there was no FX nomination for Trek II despite the groundbreakig first use of CGI (that year was Blade Runner, ET, Poltergeist) must've been the reuse of TMP FX that prevented it getting nominated. Also III, IV, VI, GEN, FC & even NEM could've done with FX noms but missed out (the standard was particularly high those years)

Congratulations! Hopefully it will win, Beyond doesn't really have much competition in that category, besides Suicide Squad, but I was unimpressed with the dismal makeup & hairstyling in SS compared to the awesome and intricate makeup in Beyond. So I think Beyond has a good chance of winning, fingers crossed.

I think it will. Oscars are awarded to the critically approved films and this also applies for the tech awards..something Suicide Squad wasn't and Trek Beyond was

I think that STB will win the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hair. They did a great job.

No, Killer Croc was a character in Suicide Squad who had crocodile like makeup.

Beyond has Jaylah who looked awesome and numerous impressive and intricate alien designs, Krall looked amazing too, while the only impressive makeup work in Suicide Squad was Killer Croc, and even he wasn't that impressive, both Jaylah and Krall still looked more badass.

So I think Beyond has a very good chance of winning.

watching Beyond again at home, I did notice how great the makeup design was, particularly on Jaylah and Krall and his crew

SS also have El Diablo, Joker, Encantress and Harley.

Of course, but the makeup on these characters are very underwhelming and lazy compared to all the intricate and detailed alien designs that Beyond has. El Diablo, Joker, Enchantress and Harley Quinn were all basically just humans with a lot of makeup on. But there were actually a lot of intricate prosthetic makeup used for the many alien designs in Beyond, the only character that has impressive prosthetic makeup in SS was Killer Croc. I mean, practically anyone can make themselves look like Joker or Harley with makeup, and indeed many people did cosplay as Joker & Harley during Halloween last year and many of them looked almost just as good as the original makeup work in the movie, even my cousin cosplayed as Harley during Halloween last year and she looked just as good as Margot Robbie did in the movie. As I mentioned before, most of the characters in SS were all basically just humans with a lot of makeup, anyone can cosplay them, it's really not that hard. The only exception being Killer Croc.
But only a professional makeup artist can make you look like Krall or Kalara or the other aliens in Beyond, the makeup work in general in Beyond is a lot more advanced and intricate with the use of a lot of prosthetic makeup.
