Madeline's last name (spoilers if you haven't seen the pilot)

A lot of people are saying that her name isn't really Matlock, but I'm not so sure. Her husband refers to her as both Madeline Matlock and (I think) Madeline Kingston. Consider this:

She clearly has a legal background, presumably having been a practicing attorney at some point. This is substantiated by one of the younger lawyers saying that her credentials check out. Sure, she could be self-taught, and could have planted fake references to herself in all the right places. But by Occam's Razor*, the most likely explanation is that Matlock is her maiden name, under which she attended law school and practiced law.

She apparently stopped practicing just before marrying Edwin Kingston, thus leaving no audit trail for her married name. Therefore her new co-workers have no idea that the young dead woman was her daughter.

* The simplest explanation that covers all the details is most likely to be the correct one.

I think it was made very clear that is her maiden name.

That was my impression too, even though I don't recall them ever flat-out stating that it was. But a lot of people seem to be saying that she used the name "Matlock" as a random alias, or just so she could put people at ease (and off guard) with a Griffith-show joke -- which puzzles me, so I'm hoping someone will explain why they're saying that. I could easily have missed something.
