do the ancient remember being an angel?

is that why they don't wanna let ppl know how to kill them so maybe one day they can return to being one or do they have no memory of there past? If so what happens when one dies is it impossible to go back to being an angel or is it impossible all together?

from what I remember in the books the ancients don't remember being an angel, but all of the ancients, including the master, have to be killed for the angel to be reconstituted.

In the books, the master knew of it, but considered himself a separate entity.
