The Elders cannot afford a bunker?

So 3 Elders together cannot scratch together enough money to buy some kind of bunker?

I thought they just got wheeled out to meet Quinlan. I did not imagine that for months they are just in a random sewer tunnel, open to attack at any time.

Seems low budget to me...

reply

A bunker doesn't do you much good if someone plants a bomb inside the bunker.

reply

How does anyone get inside the bunker?

That is the whole point of a bunker.

reply

Well, Eichorst, being a Nazi, would know a little about planting a bomb in a bunker...but I see your point.

reply

You lock yourself in maybe?

reply

Or not:

reply

Tom Cruz with a bomb does not impress me.

reply

Can you even pretend you know what you are talking about?

reply

can you go wash your vag? I can smell it from here..

reply

What bugged me was the lack of security. Masses of low-tier vamps would bring attention. Maybe if just Eichhorst snuck in I'd understand but... but maybe it's true that the ancients did get lazy and stupid and complacent like the Master said.

reply

^THIS

these guys seem to have little security at all. They should have dozens of well trained commandos not to mention even more for basic perimeter security or even humans doing that role.

reply

These ancients have been watching The Master take over NYC for like... a month and a half now, and all they've done is sit on those high chairs 24/7 while their handful of minions brought them food every once in a while.

There's f^cking THREE of them. None of them thought that maybe they should be building their own army to fight The Master who was clearly trying to take over the world?

reply

i wonder if it's poor writing or if simply they were written this dumb in the books

reply

Why would Ancients be afraid of anyone?

If daywalkers (sunwalkers?) are as half skilled as Vaun, Ancients are pretty safe. They can take anyone not named Quinlan or Master. Quinlan trained them.

They didn't expect Master would try to kill them. Why would they? Perhaps they had theirs differences through ages but in all their immortal existence no elder tried to kill other. What Master tried is unprecedented.
Besides in the books and comics you accomplish nothing by destroying their bodies. Because they existence is metaphysical and not only biological. Place of origin and stuff.

World is large enough for every one of them and only humans were threat to their existence so far.

reply

If they are at obvious odds with the Master, why would they not expect a move like that? Are we sure that the "place of origin" element is part of the TV show's structure?

Regardless, they did a poor job defending themselves, allowing their "sun hunters" to get dispatched while standing far back and waiting for the fight to get to them. Silly.

1. They sent Vaun and their other vampire commandos after Palmer because they knew he was important to The Master's plans and tried to stop him.

2. They let Setrakian spend hundreds of millions dollars of theirs to outbid The Master for the lumen. That was about 3 weeks ago.

3. They've known he's been taking over NYC for a while, and now the rest of the world, breaking their pact to remain in the shadows that has lasted for millennia.

The Master's plan of world domination is also unprecedented, and they've made numerous attempts to get in his way. They should have definitely realized that he would come for them.

reply

It is mind boggling, they have the resources to afford a better bunker but they are so arrogant as to believe the Master would never attempt to go after them.

reply

Their security was their hidden location that had numerous exits and that could probably be relocated with little notice or effort. A bunker or fortified area is very conspicuous, attracts attention and can easily be bombed or over-run or turned into a tomb/prison. Spending money and hiring workers to fortify an area creates attention and documents. Up until very recently their biggest threat was sunlight and exposure to things like the media or mobs.

As for their strategy vs the master, it was not a good one. But they were very old and had probably survived many wars and disasters up until that point by keeping a low profile and hunkering down, not by rising up and taking a stand (which would get noticed by history books and such), so it made sense. That said the Master's finding the Ancient's sanctuary was a bit too quick and easy for the sake of plot expediency (death by plot device, not stupidity per se).

Not really, that was a result of the ancients' stupidity as well, since they just stayed in their seats and sent out their half-dozen or so minions out to find them food.

When The Master has probably hundreds of thousands of vampires running around the city, that's the best surveillance system the world has ever seen. Anywhere the 3 ancients' minions go, there's probably at least one of The Master's vampires nearby who can spot them, then it's just a matter of following them back home.

reply

OK.

The Master finding the Ancients should have happened on Day 3 of the invasion/plague.

I watched 3 seasons, and never imagined that the 3 Ancients spent 24/7 on gurneys in the middle of a sewer hallway for 4-5-6 weeks.

Who the F could imagine that anyone could be that dumb?

Even homeless bums try to seek some kind of shelter so that they can avoid getting killed in the underground of any big city.

So that the Ancients got killed (or maybe?), is just a WTF dumb-ass writing moment.

That the writers had them sitting in a hallway for 6 weeks is awful writing.

Even Dracula knew to bring some native earth to lay on, and stay in a dark safe place during the day time.
