How does the nuclear apocalypse from Book 3 fit into what's going on?

I know there's only 4 episodes of this season left and the next season will be the last season. So that means only one thing can happen in this Season's finale - the nuclear apocalypse. I'm trying to figure out how this will play into what is currently happening on the show? Anyone have any idea how current show events are leading into it?

We don't know they're going with that this time.

I guess if The Master had taken Palmer's body as his host, he could use Palmer's connections in the military to get nukes, but it takes a whole lot of nukes to make a nuclear winter. One of the less plausible elements of the novels. Maybe they won't use it.

its gotta happen in order to make next season more realistic for vamps being the dominant race. they need to have less hours of sunlight so the nuclear explosions have to happen..my guess is that the ball has been rolling behind the scenes and they will start to show more about it over the next couple episodes. the season finale will probably show it and season 4 will start out just like book #3 does

What was that thing Eichorst mentioned in episode 5 about a ship making it to dock?

Every thing that was original to the books and been dumped into the garbage.

I agree.
They also started building the freedom centers which are actually mass strigoi feeding centers and then they dropped the idea. Not certain how they can bring it back without a LOT of exposition at this point.

I didn't read the books, but wouldn't a nuclear holocaust, wipe out the vamps food supply? How would they survive without human or animal blood? Does the radiation make human/animal blood toxic to them?

Are they storing food in caves or something?
