The fallout blocks the sun, making it an indefinite nighttime period, and the strigoi can roam free.

A suitcase nuke sure as hell isn't going to cause eternal night in NYC much less a global nuclear winter.

Doesn't matter what it would do in real life. In this show it creates nuclear winter, because that is what it did in the book.

In the books, it was a whole bunch of reactors melting down. That was Palmer's real value to the Master - Stoneheart owned nuclear power plants all over, including a new one near NYC.

They used multiple nuclear bombs in the books and it still didn't block the sun entirely. They still had a few hours of daylight.

the nuke reacted with the sun and went 10 times bigger than hiroshima.
