Is The Master a crimson worm in the books?

just curious.

reply

I don't believe so.

reply

The crimson worm is something they created for the show. Much like everything else after season 1.

reply

After season one the show deviated from the books a lot .

reply

Do they never decapitate/kill the master in the books? I mean like, do they ever explain his essence or what it is or how it is transferred?

I mean from the show's standpoint in makes sense that there is a physical unique object of transmission i.e. the red worm. But if its just vomiting a bunch of worms in the book that is a little silly.

reply

Spoilers (sorta) ahead!

No, the Master is not a red worm in the books and Yes, the Master and the other 6 ancients have an interesting and unique origin story.

The Master DOES die. He is also directly responsible for the death of the 6 other ancients. Their deaths are also similar to how it is portrayed on the show. Instead of suitcase nukes, he causes reactor meltdowns in the different parts of the world that each ancient is located (3 in the new world, 3 in the old). As mentioned in the Lumen in the latter half of the season, it takes the "Face of God" to kill them (the Ancients and the Master).

He is uniquely different from the other 7 and therefore more powerful.

I read the books 2 years ago, so I cannot remember exactly how he transfers his essence, but he only has 2 bodies in the books (his original form and Bolivar).

According to the original plan for the show, Season 1/Book 1, Seasons 2+3/Book 2, Seasons 4+5/Book 3. If that is still the case, then season 4 will start 2 years from the end of season 3.

I highly recommend the books.

I should go back and re-read the books.

reply

The co-creator or showrunner or network -- whoever -- people associated with the show are hinting at next season, season four, being the last season.

reply

FX cut the order short. So season 4 will be the last season and covers the third book.

reply

3 actually, not 2 (Sardu and Bolivar). Master transfers himself into Quinlan for the final fight against Eph, and he also tries to control an infected Zach.
