Max Charles did actually a good job in the season finale, why? because hes suppossed to be an unlikeable character, and he was. I dont know why almost everyone is hating on him. You re Supposed to be hatin Zack. And ive you do, the writers did a good job. Well thats just my opinion
I realized this probably last seasons finale. That his meant to be unlikeable I was very suspicious with his absence last couple episodes and season 3 finale cleared that up he truly belongs with the Master and Eichorst.
He didn't nail it. He did okay with a very simple, underwritten character. Zack's job is to whine and Max Charles does that, so I guess he does his job. But the previous actor, while nothing spectacular, was far better. At least with a character like Joffrey on Game of Thrones, there's an entertaining factor to his brattiness and horrible acts. Zack just irritates me to no end
no. maybe the actor himself IS a good actor, i've only seen him on this show, but he always just has the same bitch face/brat face in every scene. i've never seen him show any range whatsoever on this show. part of that is the writing yes but i suspect the fact he's a limited actor being the other factor. there is no nuance in the performance the young actor is giving. fortunately for him he's young enough to work on his craft and get better at his acting.
I totally agree with you! It seems like too many Strain viewers equate Zack the character with Max the actor. If you check out his other works he's NOT always this way. He's a very good teen actor & he's eliciting the response the writers, directors, and creators want. If you don't like the character that's where your beef lies. To make a character judgement of the actor because you don't like the character is ridiculous! Do you do that with the actors playing the Stringoi?
I don't know Max but I've seen him in other roles and in interviews and he's nothing like Zack. He seems like a nice kid IMHO.
On several occassions they've migrated over to his board to tell him how much he sucks as an actor. It happens on here as well. Most of the criticism about how much he sucks revolves around the actions of the character. One on this thread even makes reference to Max saying he looks like a total dildo in real life. Based on what? His portrayal of Zack?
oh. i agree w/ you that no comment should really be directed at Max himself (if it's personal related). although commenting on his acting ability is fair game.
The dislike for this actor based on the role he plays is a testament to how good he plays the role. As pointed out, we were never supposed to like Zach. In season one he was actually likeable and perhaps that is why that actor was replaced!
Zach is a selfish brat who doesn't know what he wants. He wants Mon, then he wants Dad, then he's pissed at Dad and nukes nukes NYC! He's a spoiled little brat whose dark heart is coveted by the master. No doubt he is being groomed to be the Masters vessel.
Max Charles I hope reads these comments and laughs as it is exactly the reaction he expected. Or hopefully he has a thick skin and cares less what all us armchair acting experts have to say.
At least I studied at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts and did a number of off Broadway plays, indie films, etc. My opinion comes from background! All of you??
"At least I studied at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts and did a number of off Broadway plays, indie films, etc. My opinion comes from background! All of you??"
THE most idiotic argument ever. so one has to have had musical instrument training and have had several #1 hits to be able to tell if they like a singers voice or not?
you completely make yourself look like a pathetic unsuccessful wannabe actor/actress when you make such a dumb statement/argument.
You're "hit a nerve" response indicates you are indeed the lost and forgotten one.
My point was simply as someone with some experience (I am being humble) I assert Max's acting is getting the exact response intended.
I know *beep* acting when I see it. And no of course matters of personal taste do not require an education in the arts. BUT that then is all they are... matters of personal taste.
Some like Lugosi as Dracula some swear by Lee. Who is right? Neither as it is a matter of personal taste (though I find Lugosi's "choices" to be far more interesting that Lee's "choices" but then again I am coming from a different "place").
LOL! yup that it. i'm the "lost and forgotten one". that's awesome! :) so wait, you said it's a matter of person taste, etc...
so we are actually in agreement then. i don't know if Max is a good actor or not. i'll repost my earlier comment...
i've never seen him show any range whatsoever on this show. part of that is the writing yes but i suspect the fact he's a limited actor being the other factor. there is no nuance in the performance the young actor is giving. fortunately for him he's young enough to work on his craft and get better at his acting.
that is purely my opinion but i don't expect nor want EVERYONE else in the world to agree w/ me. i don't need to be a trained actor to feel the way i do regarding Max (or any actor/actress). that was my point.
You are completely correct IMHO. I've seen Max in other roles where he is nothing like the character of Zach. The fact that you hate a character who you are supposed to hate with such a passion shows Max is doing a great job portraying the character.
The writers actually said that Ben Hyland, who portrayed Zach in Season 1, was replaced because they felt Max could go to the darker places the character was destined for. That isn't a knock on Ben who is also a good actor. He just has a different skill set.
As far as reading the comments and laughing I suspect he's not bothered. He put a picture of the aftermath of the explosion on his instagram with a caption of "Oops". :) He's been nominated for The Saturn Award for his portrayal of Zach and the creators have praised his work in the show so I imagine he knows he's doing a good job.
Yeah, I don't get all the hatred for the actor. I completely get it for the character, the kid's a stupid spoiled little brat who couldn't understand that his mother and all her friends were literally monsters, but the actor did a good job portraying that.
I wonder if Zack is supposed to be a bit slow. Did they mention that in the early episodes before things fell apart or maybe in the books? It would explain his actions a lot better.
In the novels, Zach turned into a monster, in his own right, without ever becoming infected. You're quite right. Max Charles delivered on this in spades. Will there be salvation for him in the end? I kind of hope so as this would be a twist from the novel. We'll see.
Yeah he definitely performed the function of being hated, but it wasn't a Joffrey level performance where Jack Gleeson absolutely owned that role, and as much as you absolutely hated the character it was hard not to step back and marvel and dare I say it miss him slightly when he was gone.I don't think I'll miss Zach when he's gone, but they are entirely different shows and performances so it's probably unfair to compare the two.
I wasn't a big fan of the change in actors for Zach, I preferred the original kid and that's nothing against the new one I'd just gotten used to the other annoying kid. I've never seen the actor in anything else so it's hard for me to know when the annoying character ends and the actor begins.
Jack Gleeson did such an amazing job he opted not to act again!! He felt he did what he did and now according to an interview is working towards a career as a teacher. His smiling villainy is missed.
