I have A Question

Watching the very first episode and I'm wondering if it gets any better or does it continue to suffer from convienent plot devices and retard decision making by the characters?

reply

Yes, it won't get that much better.

reply

And here you are at season 3 episode 10. I would have walked away a long time ago if I felt the way you do.

reply

There was nothing on TV and i was bored, that's why.

reply

Fair enough.

reply

Give it a try because we're all different. Something you like I may hate and vice versa. I personally have enjoyed all seasons and recommend you watch them as well. Will it be eye popping - heart throbbing extremely entertaining the entire time (no) but it has more than enough moments to keep your interest piqued.

reply

It definitely gets better! and the special effects are awesome. Just stick with it and I swear you'll be dying to watch each new episode:)
"Whoa, Summers, you drive like a spaz!"

reply

Maybe, but he is going to suffer from exactly what he asked about.

So it basically continues to suffer from convenient plot devices like shipping off over 200 contaminated bodies to the local medical examiner who does the autopsies with a face shield and even though the plane has one window with the curtain up no one looked inside to see what the f"ck is the deal? There is more stuff like that.

reply

Yes. More so the stupid stuff than plot holes IMO.

I'll probably skip the rest then because the first episode had more than its eye-rolling moments. I really enjoyed the scene where Sean Astin's character tells Goodweather he needs to speak to Setrakian and the guy doesn't have the time. Your colleague is telling you that there is someone you really need to talk to and you don't have the time as if the person is some street hobo with a sign reading The End is Nigh. Love how he further dismisses the guy because he sees the coffin he describes as a cabinet even though he has no idea what it was and how about the girl showing up at home near the end. It's Ok that his dead kid with a green head has mysteriously showed up at home and he goes in for a hug because the voice over says that love will cause this level of stupidity. There was a lot of stupidity in that first episode.

I have to be honest. The first season is cliché in that sense, sometimes painfully so.
However, I am really glad that I sticked with the show because with season 2 and 3 the show had a huge increase in quality.

If you like the tone of the first episode, I tell you to make it through season 1 and start appreciating the following seasons. Especially the season 3 final made it worth in my eyes.

I definitely liked the tone and I like this kind of genre, but that first episode should have easily been better than it was. A lot of times a first episode is good because the most money and effort is applied, but if that is the best they could do I feel sorry for what comes after. It wasn't even an issue with having to work with a TV show budget, but instead one stupid convenient plot device after another i.e. Show this card and you will get through...just as long as Sean Astin's character is in the right place at the right time which low and behold he was. I can only imagine how bad the rest of the first season could be.

I had the same question and was about to post the same... How does this have a 7.5? Everything is amateur level of cringe...

I just finished season 3 episode 1. I've been binge watching the show. I think season 1 was better than season 2. In season 2, it seems everyone went super dumb. We do get to meet a daywalker who is cool but gosh, if it weren't for the gratuitous amount of blood and killing, I'd be watching something else. Now I'm on season 3 and the writing went to *beep* but at least there is more violence.
