He wasn't an alien from another planet. He was a being from another dimension, one that coexists on top of our own but in the same location. Just responding to some of the reviews that kept calling him an "alien from another planet".

yep, pretty much. in a way, it is similar to "Interstellar" which also includes an extra-dimensional element in the story.

Obviously. The boy explained it clearly, and the film showed it. It's hard to see how so many people don't get it.
