Strange case.

All this talk about how shockingly ordinary she seemed.

Why do people always assume it's the people who are a little weird who do things like this? I'll bet if there were ever a killer around here where i live, there'd be people pointing the finger at me, without evidence. Just assuming.

Watch some true crime. It's often not so. John Wayne Gacy was a successful businessman. Ted Bundy, good looking ladies man.

There's a decent article by a Dr Marissa Harrison on the subject of Letby's ordinariness and wider perceptions of who is and isn't likely to commit such crimes on the Guardian website: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/aug/24/lucy-letby-serial-killer-forensic-psychologist-murderer.

Long story, short: according to Harrison, Letby 'in many ways' fits the profile for a female serial killer, around 40% of whom are nurses or other healthcare workers.

Yes, she doesn't exactly fit the profile -- but, as you suggest, her 'ordinariness' shouldn't come as a great, thunderous surprise.
