Call me an Ian Fleming/World War 11/Bond nut but I recall 2 previous tv films about Fleming's wartime career and the creation of Bond. Both were pretty good, one was pure fantasy but looked great (Fleming never saw action himself)the other was more about his personal life. I can't of course remember what these films were called but will do some research and post the name here shortly.
GOLDENEYE 1989 starring CHARLES DANCE,PHYLIS LOGAN and most importantly LYNSEY BAXTER in a wren uniform on a motorbike.
THE SECRET LIFE OF IAN FLEMING 1990 starring Jason Connery and Kristin Scott Thomas.
Neither are out on DVD in the Uk at least.
People are critical of Fleming, not a great writer, not a war hero, but he did know about World War 11 intelligence and Bond did wonders for the image of Britain and MI6 and the RN.

He served honorably. But he also suffers from delusions of grandeur.
Bond is not based on his own wartime exploits, but rather on his wild imaginings of what field operations SHOULD be like rather than reality.
Basically, he is a REMF writing as though he has a clue about field operations. In all honesty, I think this show could do better being re-titled as 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty'.
But that's already taken by another film right now.

I agree. This upcoming mini-series looks totally fictionalized while portraying it as Fleming's actual life in the trailer. There's even a scene in the trailers on BBC America that shows how he came up with the Bond name. That's fiction too. There's old interview footage of Fleming where he even says the name "James Bond" came from the name of an author who wrote a book on exotic birds that Fleming liked.
