Why did they include the name changing-game?

When they obviously knew Fleming got the bond name from the author of a book about birds(as they showed in the last scene), I dont understand why they would make him and his brother discuss the name and "discover" it in another way just before that.

They probably did it to emphasise the link between Fleming and Bond. Either that, or is was an attempt at humour (imagine 007 being called Harry Aitken?)

I thought that was silly as well. The conversation with the brother regarding names was fine, but the name "James Bond" shouldn't have even been part of it.
