Promoted smoking?
I think people in this series smoked way too much for some reason. Thought that it was promoting smoking.

sharePeople did smoke much more in those days. I have old family photos where there's always at least one person with a cigarette in their hands.

Ian Fleming smoked somewhere around 80 cigarettes a day. So if anything, he doesn't smoke enough in the show. It's a large part of what killed him at age 56.
Personally, I can watch movies (or tv shows like MAD MEN) all day and have no desire to smoke myself. In the same way that I can watch crime movies, etc. and am not impelled to go out and commit crimes.
"The triumph of intellect and romance over brute force and cynicism."
It was historically accurate. In those days everyone smoked all the time everywhere. We smoked at the cinema, we smoked in restaurants, we smoked in shops, we smoked at work, in courses, just everywhere including after sex.
It wasn't promoting smoing at all. It was how it was.
Rather like trying to portray a famous axe murderer but exchanging his axe for an anti-histamine spray.
They did smoke way too much. That's because nicotine is addictive.
stfu about fking avatars already.
It was not promoting smoking, it was just a realistic depiction. If they banned smoking from heavy smoking eras like WWII then they should not even try making films like these at all. This can only happen in a film set in a parallel universe, where the Nazis could also drive Ferrari Californias and the allies Audi R8.

This moronic topic is similar to others which litter discussions about most movies movies which are supposed to happen during the 20th century. People waste their time explaining that nearly 50% of adults smoked cigarettes, not to mention cigars or pipe tobacco.
I have a hard time believing the people who initiate the faintly disguised anti-smoking topics are as pathetically ignorant as they seem. At any rate maybe the rest of us should cease wasting time trying to enlighten them about decades past.

The PC Police are everywhere with sanctimonious attitudes on every topic. If you depict it you are somehow promoting it. It does no good to tell them they make people grind their teeth and hurt their own "cause."
I watch The Knick which is about a 1904 hospital in New York. Some people complain there are no women doctors and that the only African American and Jewish doctor at the hospital are discriminated against. They want to overturn history and censor any adult content. The show is being realistic about things like "Typhoid Mary" and anti immigrant campaigns, etc.
One reason HBO, Starz, et al are popular is because they don't have knuckle under to pressure campaigns from these vigilantes like the major broadcast networks do.
I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else
You are a very lonely person. I pity you.
