Oddity from IFC Films, is a supernatural home invasion horror written-directed by Damian McCarthy (Caveat). It opens on 790 screens, the widest new indie release this week. Carolyn Bracken stars as Dani, who is restoring an old castle in rural Cork County, Ireland with her husband Ted (Gwilym Lee), a doctor at a facility for the criminally insane. When Dani is brutally murdered, her blind occultist twin sister Darcy (also Bracken) goes after those responsible using inherited haunted items as her tools of revenge. Premiered in SXSW’s Midnighter section, taking the Audience Award.

The film was put together well. I'd give it a solid 3/4, perhaps 3.5 out of 4.

Though there was one mystery for me . . .

Why a man entering a house with the goal to murder someone who is alone in the home would need to wear a mask. Obviously, the writers required the mask in order to facilitate a jump scare and to keep the killers identity hidden until the end of the film. But it struck me as nonsensical within the context of the story.
