Not THAT bad...

Just saw the movie on Blu-ray. I dont think it was as bad as the movie critics and most of the audience said. I think it had good production values, the greatest Roman armors I ve seen in a movie and by far the most realistic naval battle scene in movie history (in my 7.1 surround system it gave me shivers). Yes I agree about the 1/3 of the movie looked like a tv mini-series, yes the two protagonists did not perform as required, yes it wasnt as close to the quality of the original Ben Hur but still, it was perfectly watchable and had 2 very entertaining hours watching it.

A 6.5/10 from me if you judge it as a movie.

A 4/10 if you judge it as a remake.

I personally really enjoyed this film and don't understand the poor reviews. I think it deserves at least a 6.5 on IMDB for sure. I think the biblical content has a lot of folks automatically dismiss this film as being bad. It seems like most religious/biblical based films suffer from anti-religious sentiment. Pretty poor way to judge a film to be honest.

Hired it and about a 6 is right to me. It got more watchable once the slave-ship part began, and the very important chariot scene was quite alright, but it was overall very little more than watchable and I wouldn't go out of my way to see it another time .
