Guy on enemy ship


When Ben-Hur saw the enemy ship coming, there was a guy on that ship. I have no clue what the hell that was. Any idea? Thanks.

Are you referring to the Roman prisoner tied to the front of the enemy ship?

Probably you're right. But is this "method "(tying prisoners to the front of ships) absolutely obvious for you? You saying it like it were normal everydays' method in those years in sea fights.

I'm familiar with it. This method came from the 1925 silent version's portrayal of the sea battle. In that one, the pirate lord tells his Roman prisoner that he will be returned- by his choice of 'return.'
