Doesn't it just see awkward without Cusack?

I know it's been discussed to death on this board, but it just feels off. I see the ads and it's like the elephant in the room. It even references the first film so deliberately avoiding the scenes with john. Just feels kinda off to me. It'd be one thing to recast, but to simply ignore it is strange. Of course, the film could very well address it, but surely they could've found a way to fit him in or at least make amends assuming there was tension.

Awkward yes. But I think that will really hurt the film was the accessibility and the easy touchstone of the time period. The 80s. Even though the movie was silly that part helped keep the film grounded. That doesn't seem to be the case with the sequel. I could be wrong on this, and I would love to be. But there was a bit of a heart and soul to the first film that I can't see being replicated in a sequel. The same with the recent Dumb and Dumber To. Part of what worked was the heart of the film with the character of Lloyd. The heart just wasn't there in the updated sequel.
