Josh doesn't really have much of a story line and he's fairly useless. I don't know if the show runners want to keep him to show some diversity, since he's the only gay character at the moment, or to add some humour here and there. But if they killed Cami because there was no story for her, why keep Josh who has had nothing for awhile now?
Davina would have been great to keep as well. Since Kol is back, she wouldn't be going after Klaus anymore and could have been another witch for the Mikaelson crew that Freya could train or something. Just like Hayley, she could have cemented herself as part of the Mikaelsons due to her relationship with Kol. It would have been fun to see her do something with Klaus and perhaps get a better understanding of him and give him a better understanding of her.
Maybe Josh is still popping up because he doesn't take up much time. Cami and Davina were both main characters, appearing in 16-18 episodes. Josh only is in a few. Who knows if we will see anymore of Josh with Davina gone, he doesn't want war. There are many characters I would rather see before Josh.
Because money. Steven (Josh) is only in a handful of episodes and doesn't get the paycheck Leah (Cami) or Danielle (Davina) does as a regular.
I don't think there's any word if Steven will become a regular in S4, if he'll just pop in now and again to help propel the story forward, or if he'll just leave now that his BFF is dead.

I agree with everything you just said except the part about Josh. He wasn't supposed to die in season one. He was slated to die in season 2. Julie Plec said that Josh and Adian had a Romeo and Juliet type romance and we all know how that ended.
JP originally planned to kill off Josh in S1; the writers threatened to never forgive her if she did, so she gave in and let him live. Letting him live allowed him to have the Romeo & Juliet romance with Aidan in S2.

It is as mentioned above. Characters like Josh don't ask for much screen time, so he may stay. The writers must have known that their show was allowed another season, with lesser episodes. I don't think Michael Narducci gave up that easily, he had to cut his own characters and their personal storylines. At least he quoted Lauren Bacall:
You don't always win your battles, but it is good to know you fought.
In the end Michael, and Julie, preferred the continuation of their show. So Carina Mackenzie could state at Twitter they never wrote the female characters off to make room for other love interests: https://twitter.com/cadlymack/status/729885740788670464
I believe her. The way things are now, I guess it will be difficult to give a decent ending to the story of the original, nuclear family, let alone their love interests.
If you'll ask me it is not wise to deny the fact you prefer to get paid above the best story ever told. People really do understand you have to pay the mortgage, and that art is for millionaires.

I suppose that's true, but so much could have been done with at least Davina. She may hate Klaus, but she'd be forced to accept him for Kol's sake and would have been a viable asset to the family.
If she remained, I could definitely have seen her leave with Hayley and Hope to find a cure.

Exactly. I think Leah made a good choice- getting her character killed rather than giving her limited screen time with no story. I seem to recall Leah said something liked about her interview with MN and what and why they decided this end for Cami.

she never had one. They had chance in season 1 to explore her story with human faction but they never did that coz they wanted her to make Klaus redemption story, which they did and then they wound her story up by killing her bringing the redemption home.

Them misusing Cami doesn't mean there's no story to tell
I find this very interesting. A character is what and how it is written not how it should be written to make it interesting.
It is just like me saying they should have made Caroline Klaus's child mom. But Caroline was never meant to be that character just like Cami was what they showed her to be. What they didnt show is not what she was supposed to be.

They were closing out the story. The siblings are dead (?), Klaus is being tortured before his death. Hayley is off with Hope. If The Originals are all gone, why would they keep Cami or Davina?
They had time to change the final and throw in Freya's spell so TO can come back season 4. But was their time to rewrite Cami's death? Davina died so Marcel would kill TO. They killed off everybody. Maybe Vincent would have had the power to kill Marcel, too, if they weren't renewed.
Cami sole purpose in this show was klaus redemption as per canon. now that he is close to that what else is left for her ? she has done the max she could do for him. now it was time to let him leave the nest and be on his own and see if he can keep himself on that path on his own or does he still need hand holding? that is his real test in s4 imo.

Looking back, Cami had to die - not because of angst, but because she would have been on Marcel day and night to forgive Klaus; she would have been the one to call out Marcel on his BS excuses; she would have been the one to point out that he bears some responsibility for Davina's death by setting her on the path in the first place.
Edit: She also would have been the one to research how to cure everyone, including Marcel.

I think you're right: It's for the diversity & comedic value, because it's not like he plays an integral role in storylines. Plus, no-one would miss him if he randomly died (Characters or audience).
Coz Josh has no story basically. Cami had a story which came to an end and they have nothing for her. Josh is like an extra whom they can use whenever they need him. I think it is good to give a character a good death rather than keeping them on leash just like they have kept Josh with no story at all.

I think one of the biggest reasons why they got rid of cami and kept josh was because josh is a minor character and doesn't do much in terms of furthering the show so there's no point in getting rid of him and also no point in keeping him. He's just there. But with cami's character, they were writing her like a minor character but projecting her as a main character. She didn't have her own story, she was used when klaus' story needed to grow. If they just focused on her character without thoughts on "how will this affect klaus?", then she could have been a strong enough character to be a main character. But the writers never utilized the characters potential and instead made her more of a prop to klaus and defined her as his love interest. You could tell they were running out of reasons to keep her relevant in the show because they were too focused on klaus' story and seemed nervous to really get into the character of cami without klaus in the picture. The writers just screwed up with character growth in cami and it showed since season one but they never did anything drastic enough to fix it.

basically this
