I love TVD, so when TO started I watched up until the first few episodes of season 2. I liked it, but found the storyline didn't interest me as much as TVD, and I got so busy that I fell behind with the episodes and basically just forgot about this show.
Does it get better or get worse after the first season? Do you think it's worth me watching?
I think there's a good chance if you found TVD more compelling and fell behind, The Originals wouldn't have gotten better for you. Try watching the rest of the second season. This show is centered around different things to TVD and has a different pace which is why the shows don't work well together and why crossover fans who prefer TVD have a hard time when this show has different priorities to TVD.
For me, I love the show as a whole and more than TVD- I've always preferred family as a core as opposed to romance driven, both blood and by bond. Especially in a genre for me that usually comes second to science fiction.

Season 2 is my least favorite season, 3 is much better IMHO and has some unexpected and tragic moments. Season 3 is also closer to TVD, there are even 2 crossovers and a certain phone call...

I found it hard to get into but I love it now. I think in some ways, it'd better done than TVD and I got really invested in all the characters and stories.
shareI almost quit around Season 2, but Season 3 was quite good IMHO and consistently kept me interested, to my surprise.
I also watch TVD.
