Seeing so many hate towards Elijah but I can fully understand what he did. I think if the same thing happened to Salvatore brothers, like some creature is out to get Damon, I believe Stefan would have put down that creature as well as long as he's able to. Marcel was never that important to Elijah, and the fact that he is on the hunt for his family members give no problem for Elijah to put him down the second when he thought he had the chance.

And no you are not the only one who understands Elijah's pov but that does mean what he did was right. Marcel was right, his family had all the chance in their 1000 years of life, people shouldnt continue to sacrifice their life for them. Saying that I do understand his pov but I also understand Marcel's pov. MN was right. Good writing is what is written from each character pov (paraphrasing of course).

This is a crucial point sorely lacking across fictional mediums where people cast a character as a villain because they go against the antagonist. Bad writing is where that opposition is punished by the story for it and there's no sign that what the protagonists have done might not be the only way. There were multiple points-of-view last season and they were all fascinating.
On one hand, I hope the CW's tanking new shows don't force them to renew The Originals, or worse consider renewing and not letting them make an episode that can serve as a finale- on the other, this and Orphan Black are my absolute favourites at the moment and losing them both in 2017 hurts. You just don't get complex characterization often. The audience is too used to 'character doesn't want what the protagonist wants = that character must be shut down and punished.'

^^ this. This is what I find frustrating and fascinating at the same time about TO. There is not one person whom I can root 100% rationally. Saying that I wouldn't mind Elijah facing the consequences of what he did more than just that bite and those lost five years. Like I said I understand his pov but that does not mean what he did was right. Even he knew that and ironically he played a major part in bringing that prophecy home. If he had not killed Marcel, wouldnt have made him the beast...

^^ this. They have done by and large pretty good job in writing and flushing these characters.

Marcel was important to Elijah. He was he little Padawan or apprentice when Marcel was younger. So I do think Elijah care for Marcel...I don't hate anything Elijah did these season b/c lazy writing was in FULL EFFECT IN S3. Elijah was so out of character and was made to do thinks to keep the writers storyline moving. I know the "real" Elijah.
I think there's a subtle reaction in Elijah's whole body expression in that moment, it's like he cares more for Marcel than he lets on but from his POV Marcel's mind is poisoned and is determined to take down the rest of their family, Elijah sees no other alternative but to act. At least I hope the writers were going for that because it makes the moment more profound, a sense of inner conflict that Elijah is going to have to bear.
Klaus may mourn his adoptive son but Elijah will have to mourn his adoptive nephiew but also bear the burden of having killed him, forcing him to think "Did I act too quickly?" which will be hard once he believes his family is safe and the threat is no longer there.
Most people I see were praying Marcel would die for good when Elijah did that. I honestly haven't seen any hatred towards him for that. I certainly feel none and it's one of the only times his writing hasn't gone to hell (and I say this as an elijah fan/former Elijah fan. Halijah has utterly destroyed him)
