Why is season 4 starting so late?
Is it to allow to include the characters of TVD?
shareNo, both The Originals cast and The Vampire Diaries cast are filming right now.
The Originals are filming their penultimate episode now (4x12) and will have finished filming the finale before Christmas.
TVD cast will still be filming until January because they have more episodes than the Originals.
It's purely a scheduling issue for the CW because they had too many shows to air them all in October. I think if Supergirl hadn't moved to the CW, the Originals might have aired along with TVD. But Supergirl keeping its 8pm Monday slot meant that Crazy Ex Grilfriend had to be moved to Friday after TVD (they have to air CExG in the fall in order for it to be eligible for awards season).
I thought they might have started airing The Originals at 9pm with TVD on Fridays after Crazy Ex finishes in early February, but they obviously decided to put Reign there instead. Probably because Reign has 18 episodes to air while The Originals only has 13.
Thanks for your detailed answer. I'm in the UK and the CW are spread on various channels so I couldn't have all the information you gave me. TO is not on TV anymore but on Amazon Prime the next day or so after the US.
shareJust an FYI, if you need somewhere free to watch any CW show try going here:

I thought it was starting in January. I think some might forget about the show, and the ratings will continue to go down.
shareI agree with you, Rocks. Starting that late in the season signals a death knell to me. Also , it was announced last week that this would be Reign's last season (S4 airs in Feb). I think as it gets closer, we might hear some news regarding TO's fate.
