They are only getting 13 episodes for season 4 and they have completed filming for this season. I'm sure they didn't film a proper finale in case the CW decides to cancel. What would be the probability that they will get another season?
JP is hoping and working hard for a season 5. Whether or not CW grants it probably depends on how season 4 goes. The finals for seasons 2 and 3 could have both been series finals, so I imagine season 4's final will be too.
No. they would never have done that. They would have ended it on good note if that were the case like that season. I mean yes all Mikaelson family got screwed but mostly they were at peace with each other and that is what will happen with this series finale not like season 2 when they all hated Klaus. If that is ad were to happen then what was the point of this show once again? This show is about family, how ever screwed up thy have made it but at the end they will all come out backing each other which is not what happened at the end of season 2.

Its arpund 60 percent. The cw at most has ended 3 shows a year. This year they will already without TO have ended 4: TVD, Reign, and the two new shows that bombed frequency and no tomorrow. I don't think they deviate from that trend to cancel a fifth show. So I think TO is safer than not for a fifth final season if ratings don't collapse.
That's true that they don't end more than 3 shows a year but this year they do have more shows so I'm guessing it depends on how the ratings stand up against other shows that haven't been renewed yet. No Tomorrow and Frequency haven't been cancelled yet but just didn't get additional episodes and they have 13 just like this show will when it airs.
A spring show soing only 13 is not a death sentence. A new show being limited to only 13 when the option was there to have more is an obvious cancellation.
Not necessarily. Plus keep in mind that when TO was renewed they didn't know it was going to be pushed back to Spring with only 13 episodes which is not good either. Like I said nothing is official yet. On this network nothing has been obvious. I'm sure they would have exercised the option to have more if they didn't have as many shows as they do now. The network has more shows on it's roster than it has before which leaves more room for cancellations and that doesn't necessarily mean the two new shows, three if you count Riverdale, but I think it will depend on the ratings and I do think they will consider that this show has had lower ratings each season it's been on the air. So it has to do better than most of the new shows or at least improve in ratings.
The rating are not good and neither season 4 getting turned into a shorter midseason replacement. But the bar for success is lower on the CW then other channels and ratings expectations have changed in general. Online popularity matters now I guess and the CW has some streaming deal with Netflix so I hope we get at least a 5th season (then we'll get a 100th season ).
I bet the best chance for a season 5 would be for Katherine to escape Hell in the Vampire Diaries series finale and cross over to the Originals. She has so much potential and would fit in great in New Orleans. I believe Nina appearing can help improve ratings for the Originals and save the show (especially as Katherine...or perhaps even Tatia as a villain since everyone else seems to come back - Elena does not make any sense.. they can leave her sleeping for all I care.)
^^Good idea but Nina left TVD to do movies or whatever so maybe she'd do an episode of the originals but shes not gonna come back as a recurring character.
