The series was a minor work of art, and I mean that as praise, not put down. Eva Green’s bravura acting in it deserved an Emmy award. I loved the show's literacy, though I found the Frankenstein's monster's slavish love of poetry for poetry's sake banal. I'm fully aware that Mary W. Shelly's monster was literate, but combining him with the bride of the monster, as PD did, and having him want "to fill her heart wiith poetry," was just too fey a note for a series that could have achieved a wider appeal among mainstream horror fans. The series ended because Vanessa Ives is its central character, its organizing principle. When her story arc concluded, so did the series. That is not my opinion. That comes from the show runners. I still watch the whole thing occasionally. I especially like the scenes between Vanessa and the Cutwife, in both her incarnations!
