Max Riemelt in the new netflix show Sense8 - Freier Fall (2013) Discussion

Whatever happens with sense8, I don't think we have to worry about that.
Both Max and Hanno already agreed to play Marc and Kay if the crowdfunding will succeed and if they are ok with the script (and I guess they will be ok because they are involved in writing it).
So Max just won't/can't let everyone down because there can't be a sequal without him.

So, it looks like they have something in mind for the sequal:

Max Riemelt: To be honest, I find that a bit difficult. The process has been started now. But up to now there is not even a script yet. Even though "Free Fall" was an important film for me I never accept [an offer for a role] blindly. Let's wait and see what the script is going to be and how the project develops.

Max Riemelt's official Facebook and Twitter have shared/retweeted most of the news from Freier Fall 2 page. He even encouraged fans to "like" Freier Fall 2 Facebook page if they want it to happen. That pretty much tells us something.

I agree Nesatzuke. And the producer confirmed that Max will play Kay IF the crowdfunding will be succesful and IF he will
agree with the script.

So the question is IF there will be a sequal, not if Max will play Kay.

On the subject of "Sense8," it's an interesting role for Riemelt; he gets to play Wolfgang, the most ruthless and criminally active character in the so-called "cluster." But beneath all his firepower and childhood trauma, you get the feeling he has a good soul.

Those who are curious shouldn't be put off if the show seems a little bonkers at the start; facts be known, "Sense8" IS bonkers. But it's definitely unique. Also, the cast is solid, the cinematography and editing are often impressive, and the finale delivers the goods.

And the orgy scene is a hoot.

Meanwhile to shoot a season took over half a year so I'm worried about Max not making Freier Fall 2 even if enough money is raised to make the sequel.

It looks like they planned to start the crowdfunding at the end of June.
Sense8 will be released in the first week of June.

It's just a stupid guess, but maybe they want to wait with a possible crowdfunding because of Sense8.
Because it isn't sure yet that Max will have time/possibility for a FF sequal?
But again, just a guess.

I think, once crowdfunding has started, they must be pretty sure that Max is able and willing to play in FF2.

I don't think when they start the crowdfunding campaign will be a problem. Obviously we all know them raising enough money could be a problem but we already knew that could be an issue.

Now the new issue is if Sense8 is a hit(and it's likely it will be) Max is contractually obligated to do 4 more seasons of the show. Shooting for 6 months straight in 9 different cities around the world has got to be exhausting. Maybe Max wouldn't feel like spending another few months shooting a film during his off time from the show.

I want a Free Fall sequel as much as anyone but this just complicates matters more.

That's why I thought that this could be the reason for not starting the crowdfunding until end of June. To see what happens with Sense8 first. If it's unlikely that Max has the time/opportunity to do a FF sequal, they won't start the crowdfunding I assume.

He wrote on twitter today:

These are two completely different projects: a) #Sense8 (released by Netflix on June 5), b) Free Fall, that probably will be shot in 2015 or later - depending on the success of a planned crowdfunding 2/2

So that sounds like time/availability is not an issue.
After all, last year he made more movies than just sense8.

Well I hope both Sense8 becomes a hit and Free Fall 2 gets made.

I'm already addicted to Sense8 and I have watched the trailer 20 or some times and read every scrap of info about the show I could find.

I also want Free Fall 2 to be made and be be every bit as great as the first film but this time give us a PROPER ENDING!!!

I mean the box office of the first one is less one million us dollars and they call it a success so I wonder if they are bluffing about the budget.

colbyyuan, that's my point too.
Nothing wrong with dreaming dreams, but in the case of a sequel, be realistic on economics and how the cash has to be raised.
Finally, the ending of FF was fine by me - we were left to form our own ideas and future for Marc, and what Kay was doing in his new Life.

They don't want to raise it all by crowdfunding:

""As we told you earlier we think that it's gonna be pretty tough to raise the whole 2,5 to 3 million Euros budget for the film through crowdfunding, so our idea is to first get a smaller budget through crowdfunding to get the whole project started and then later raise the money for FREE FALL 2 through regular film funding channels.

We don't know what they have in mind for the sequal (more police action?).

- They don't want to raise all the money for the sequel from crowdfunding. Only part of it.

- Sequels generally are more expensive.

- There is scenes that couldn't be filmed for the first film due to the budget.

- The first film may have grossed less than 1 million in theaters but it was only released commercially in theaters in Germany.

- Films like Free Fall make the vast majority of their money from rentals, DVD sales, and selling rights to air to networks/netflix.

Don't make it sound like the first film was a flop just because they are trying to raise money for a sequel. They didn't even envision a sequel in the first place until tons of people started clamoring for one.

Does anyone actually plan on watching Sense8 when it's released? I'm SO EXCITED for it and Max is only part of the reason!

Your question was if Max will have time to do a FF sequal if Sense8 will be succesful enough to produce more seasons.
What's wrong with that?

That's cool...I've seen a few people tweet him that as well.

The good news is Sense8 will likely expose him to a wide new audience as well with some people looking him up and watching Free Fall and then hopefully jumping on board the I want a sequel bandwagon.

Max will definately get new fans because of sense8 but I'm not sure if this will affect the number of people who want to support FF2.
To like Max is one thing, to like Freier Fall enough to support a sequal is another.
I love Max but the reason I will support a FF sequal is because I really loved the movie.

I didn't even know who Max was 3 months ago but then I watched Free Fall. Then last week I happened upon the trailer for Sense8 and was like "OMG....That is Kay/Max!"

People are going to look him up because of the show and that does include people who like MM stuff.

I watched a few movies with Max in it. He's always good but I think he's at his very best in FF (acting and looks).

You do have to keep in mind that this will EASILY be the widest exposure Max as ever had for people and he is doing some "kind of gay" stuff in the "psychic orgy" and from what I have read they all make out with eachother. MM fans are going to search him out and find out about Free Fall.

Still I am skeptical Free Fall 2 will happen because there is so many variables at this point but I do want it as much as anyone.

So I've watched ten episodes of Sense8 now, and I really like the show (which surprised me a bit) because it's not only entertaining 'blockbuster' stuff but also very human. I get the feeling the Wachowskis try to make people view the world with a more open mind, to see the beauty and strength that lies in emotions and various lifestyles and forms of love, showing how we're all ONE in a way, like the sensates are all connected to each other. It's a bit visionary even, not shying away from showing all kinds of sex scenes, graphic child birth, addressing menstruation (that hilarious scene where Lito unknowingly suffers all the emotional effects that come with menstruating because of his connection to Sun who is just having her menstruation) etc, and always highlighting the emotional aspect of it.

Having that said I was also surprised to find that there are many characters that I like more than Wolfgang, Max's character. He's badass and cool, but for some reason I feel pretty indifferent towards him, while I love Lito and Will, Sun and Capheus.

Wolfgang was a great character, but I agree that there were many others to like. The same as you mentioned, Dani and Riley also.

Can we please talk about the horribleness and shoehorning of Wolfgang's love story/love triangle with Kala? OMFG!

I sort of understand what they were trying to do but it failed miserably. I have a bad feeling there will just be more of it in season 2.

I might be in the minority hating on it though.

By the way, I hadn't thought much about rearranging the pairings but then I watched a Lito/Wolfgang fanvid that made me go - Yes! That works! Now I want to see Lito/Wolfgang in season 2.

Same here, it just feels so fabricated and their 'romantic' interactions made it a little hard for me to like them. For some reason they get the most platitudinous lines (I can't believe that all stories are written by the same people, the quality of the dialogue seems to vary so much). At least they started giving Wolfgang more scenes with other sensates later instead of just pairing him up with Kala all the time.

Lol, I understand you. With his backround I think Wolfgang would be a perfect lone wolf kind of character who slowly gets to be part of the group, learning to trust them and opening up to them etc. It just feels too early for romance imo.

It was hard for me to like Wolfgang much at first because of all the irritating crap with Kala. Once we got into his story and away from her, it was better. You're right about their scenes with each other and lines and stuff. So fabricated, so contrived! I don't get it either.

Wolfgang as a lone wolf would be great. Why does he need to be paired with anyone romantically anyway? I see that what they're going for: the bad boy is "saved" by the good girl, or some stupid *beep* Opposites might attract, somewhat, but those two are way too opposite from each other. I read somewhere there'll be more of the love triangle with Wolfgang and Kala and her man there. OMFG kill me now!

Yeah it's obvious, sometimes the obvious works, when the chemistry is right for example, or if there are nuances to the characters that add some originality, but here it's just blunt and lame, no real sparks of any kind.

I'm not bothered by this, I refuse to read anything into it. I'm sure Sun and Capheus will get their romantic/steamy plot, I mean it's only been one season. And to be honest imo ALL the characters have had pretty stereotypical roles and plotlines so far. I still enjoy most of them.

Thank you once again, you are great! Watched it but nope, Lito/Wolfgang doesn't work for me at all, can't even say why exactly. Also, I've watched Freier Fall so often by now that I can't unsee Marc/H.Koffler in those scenes with M.Riemelt. :-)
