This will probably be just another anti-British film

I suspect this will be just another left-wing film that seeks to trash the British military and portray the British as being brutal thugs and Irish Catholics as hard done by and oppressed.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if my assessment is wrong, but I doubt it will be because British cinema is absolutely full of far-leftists who love running their own country down.

I've recently seen it at the Berlinale film festival, and I thought it was amazing! As an American, I came in without knowing anything about what was going on and I didn't take it as a film that was picking a side. I saw it as a film that showed how corrupt the military could actually be and how they "care" for their soldiers. It was shocking and moving and I greatly enjoyed it.

Funny how we take sides so fast. When I saw the preview I thought, "God, please don't portray the Irish as bloody savages."

From what I hear the story is pretty balanced. Hopefully, so.

If all you're looking for in a film is whether it supports your politics, then why even bother watching movies at all?

I seriously don't get this mentality. A story can be interesting or entertaining even when I don't support the world view of the protagonist. I'm just looking for a good narrative with some solid direction or at least something that's entertaining enough to engage me on some level. Whether it's with the acting, directing, on a technical or intellectual level.

This movie, so far looks like a solid period thriller to me. I will wait and see.

It sounds like you are looking for a some right wing propaganda. Maybe you should go make your own movies.

Maybe there are those outside the BNP who like to focus on the truth. An ironic post from someone who loves Britain's greatest historical enemy. I suppose you think the holocaust was propaganda too!

There's a moral to this story Del Boy but for the life of me I can't find it!

True to that!!! Well said my friend!

reply

Well if it's "pro British" then it would be highly offensive considering the setting.
Mind you, Britain and its media are moving more and more to the right so you may get your wish.

You are right OP, there have been a lot of anti-British films made by British directors, but hopefully this isn't one of them and it does look like a bloody good thriller whatever your politics.

If it was made by someone like Ken Loach i wouldn't go near it.

The British are never portrayed bad enough in films, they are the biggest scumbags on earth.

How ironic that your comment makes you sound like a scumbag yourself? You d!ck.

People listen to Coldplay and vote for Nazis - you can't trust people.

reply

How ironic that your comment makes you sound incredibly butthurt!

The dumbest thing about their comment is that they generalise all British people together as one, rather than distinguishing that the current Tory government shows what a bunch of scumbags those from the privileged classes, and those who decide to take a paycheck from corporate paymasters, can be.

Oh wow, spot the muh heritage idiot. I do find it cute that you give everything British a 1 star rating. I know that you plastic paddies are eternally pooper pained but I don't think giving Benny Hill a 1 star is going to bring down the empire.

For the record, an American calling someone else histories greatest monster...really?
