Film snobs. Gotta love em. Spend their time telling people what they can and cant like, insult their inteligence if they enjoy something that the film snob doesnt like.
Ive seen both, liked both but would not insult furious 7. That was a well executed, damn fun popcorn movie with its tongue firmly in its cheek!
Insulting one film and its audience simply because you prefer another is like slating rap because you prefer opera.
A healthy mind knows theres room for both.

However, there is little doubt in my mind that movies which hardly demand much thought from audiences in working out plot (or sub-plots),but are full of action, lots of cgi, get high mark rates on imdb, I guess because a majority of the markers are below 28/30.
Generally speaking, the populations out there are better educated than 50 years ago, but one would have thought, standards in film would have risen proportionately, but I do not see it.
Everything has to be spelled out for them - one can tell from some of the questions on various film boards on imdb. I can't say they are dumb but certainly their attention spans are limited.
So why are not both rated equally then?

Most of the fringe/niche/low budget stuff will only appeal to fans of that stuff anyway, so they'll be the majority of voters and more likely be favourably inclined. Mass audiences means a wider variety of tastes and lower average of favourable votes.

shareThis movie was boring as hell! It was promising to begin with. Everything was great up until he was stranded. I rented the film at home and I eventually turned it off near the pub bombing scene. I gave it a 4/10
