I was tryin to find out when the "The Hornets Nest" (Afghan War Doc.) date of release is/what theaters I would be able to see it in or... if it'll go straight to DVD.
As I looked through the cast and crew, I began to notice that there is not ONE SINGLE THING mentioned about the brave, bad ass soldiers that let these stupid "film guys" come along on these incredibly dangerous missions, & they OBVIOUSLY had no idea about what the hell they were doing or that they were going to one of the 5 most dangerous regions in the World/Afghanistan, both... & not only that, they put all those soldiers lives at more risk, since they're untrained civilians with a camera & can't even watch over anyone since they're too busy filming, making money & getting famous. And
These film documentarians & IMDb have the nerve to not even mention our brave soldiers name's, ranks, units, & even brigades or divisions. It's absolutely mind boggling they think this is ok.
@webberbrett344 Please hold your uninformed opinions to yourself until you've seen the documentary. I have seen the documentary, (my nephew was killed the day a portion of the documentary covers,) and I can tell you that you are completely wrong in your assumptions about this film and the Boettchers. Mike has a lot of experience and was very welcome to join the Army and Marines units. As a matter of fact, he was able to keep up with the men that were more than half his age. Until you've seen this film, you won't have any appreciation for what it took to get this film footage. And that even includes anyone who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
By the way, this documentary is being put together as a non-profit project. Mike Boettcher is not "getting rich" off this film. All the work being done to get this film into the public is volunteer. Do your research before you make baseless accusations.
Also, having worked with the military on independent films for the last 5 years, I can tell you there are very strict rules surrounding the use of military personnel on film. For instance, an active duty service member cannot appear in a commercial production while in uniform (which is why uniforms are intentionally incorrect in many ads and movies); there are also severely restrictive policies regarding the ability to compensate or credit individuals for their participation in a production.
The US military jealously safeguards its "brand" against unflattering portrayals, so all third party productions - even those honoring the brave men and women of our Armed Forces - are required to abide by the safeguards established by the Department of Defense.
I don't know the story behind THE HORNET'S NEST or what administrative hurdles they had to jump through, but it's highly likely that the exclusion of the individual Soldiers' names was required by the Army's Public Affairs Office to avoid "endorsing" a film they didn't produce themselves.
I can understand your frustration. I replied to your other post AFTER reading this along with the replies you got. As a 2/8 G Co. Marine, my unit along with the rest of my battalion were the ones depicted in this film. We had no issues when we had reporters and other civilian personnel shadowing us on patrols. If anything it heightened our awareness to our surroundings because they were among us. If you check out the hornets nest official website, full credit is given to my USMC unit along with the 2 army units. IMDb is probably not responsible for giving credit where credit is due. They are merely a website that hosts the data. We as the troops do not do it for the "credit". I am just happy that now people outside of our profession can now kind of see what goes on behind the politics. That our freedom comes at a price.
"As I looked through the cast and crew, I began to notice that there is not ONE SINGLE THING mentioned about the brave, bad ass soldiers...."
**Their efforts are lauded many times in the press material and in the movie itself.
"....that let these stupid "film guys" come along on these incredibly dangerous missions, & they OBVIOUSLY had no idea about what the hell they were doing..."
**A.) They shot on video, not film. B.) The father has been shooting news war footage for 30 years and knows what he is doing. He didn't want his son to go.
"....they put all those soldiers lives at more risk, since they're untrained civilians with a camera..."
**They didn't sneak into the war. Your bosses allowed them in.
"....since they're too busy filming, making money & getting famous."
**Filming (video) is their job. They did their job. I don't understand your anti-capitalism argument, but even with that in mind, are there really that many war documentarians that are especially rich and famous? None are coming to mind for me. And woulnd't that rich-and-famous platform be more of a vehicle to bring notice to the troops, rather than one ill-informed angry voice online? Don't soldiers also win awards, write books, go on tv shows, have their stories turned into films, and become rich and famous, too?
"These film documentarians & IMDB have the nerve to not even mention our brave soldiers name's..."
**That's not how IMDB works. Ordinarily that info has to be submitted to them. The IMDB for the most part isn't a hunter-gatherer. Besides, the movie is more important than the IMDB page, and they are mentioned ALL though the movie. You get to see one soldier pinned with TWO Bronze Stars, in fact. And.... his name is in the move and the press material.
“All I was asking was when I can see the movie and I didn't know it was about the USMC.”
**Well, not exactly. Anyway, all anyone did was inform you.
I agree with you. As matter of fact, there's political goals behind this movies, and the 'true' soldier have to fixed the 'punk soldier'. What is the punk soldier means?Soldiers or we can called it bunch of persons that acted like a big man with a gun and pointed to little kid that only had a candies.
The 'punk soldier' not do the assignment as a soldier, this kind of soldiers doesn't know what they sent for. They only knows how to hold their weapon and kill something.
But the true soldier with respect is they know what their doing in the battle field, they know what's wrong and right, they will help the locals, and very careful with their weapons, one bullet is precious. Full of consideration and strategies, known their mission on field, known what have to avoid in the field and other things.
The 'punk soldier' is shoot an old man on a bike in the streets just to get a rank, and the true soldier with respect has to paid their stupidity.
War is not FPS game, when you pulled the triggers, someone will die.
All you were asking was when you can see the movie and you didn't know about the USMC? OMG! Your memory is EXTREMELY short for what you write, isn't it? Luckily, you don't have to remember, as you can easily see what you wrote in the beginning, and you were definitely ranting, not asking when you can see the film.
The plural of mouse is mice. The plural of goose is geese. Why is the plural of moose not meese?
The movie comes out May 9th in Dallas and OKC and expands nationally on June 6th. Please check the website,http://thehornetsnestmovie.com/. To see where it is playing in theaters near you. As others have said below, PAO does not allow soldiers names to be listed individually in credits, but we have made it our priority to have all the soldiers very involved in the film and have incorporated their input throughout the process as they have been like family to the production team.
I haven't seen this yet, but definitely want to. I came across a preview on YouTube that just ended way too soon, and has me hooked. Kind of far away for me so I will have to wait for the DVD which I hope is soon to follow.
Carlos and Mike were with us (3 PLT, A TRP, 1-33 CAV, 3 BCT, 101 ABN AA) at the platoon-sized COP Spera in '10 and in no way did we feel that our lives were more at risk with them with us (but of course when we had these guys come out to document our bad-assery, we had one of our slowest weeks ever, action-wise!). They were nothing but professionals, in fact Mike had more combat experience than probably 80% of our guys. It was absolutely a pleasant experience having them around for that week (although they were not quite as nice to look at as Lara Logan was when she was there), and to have a fellow Bears fan there was nice. So you shut your pie-hole WebberBrett344! (All release dates and theaters can be found on the Hornet's Nest website I believe)
Respect to you timbliz! Anyone who gets told to go to another country halfway around the world throws lead and comes back in any shape gets a free pass in my book any day! Can't say I envy you, but you better believe it has shaped your life forever. Take it easy.
