Tate isn't likeable to me

I don't what it is. Maybe it because he's not a good actor. Milton is the best on the show because he's a great actor.

Because Tate is an idiot and the actor is one of the worst I've ever seen.

Agreed on both counts. Almost stopped watching because of the guy. I remember him saying "For Pete's Sake!" in the car and I kinda cringe-laughed. He's just so, so bad. Delroy (Milton) is almost as bad as Jake (Tate). The deep "Bo is so special" moments just come off stupid and insincere.

The only thing saving this show is a decent premise and a kinda-ok lead kid actor.

You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake.

Don't crap on the actor too much. He is a legit war hero in real life and deserves respect for that alone.

But... yeah, hes not the best actor in the world. I think Tate is meant to be that likeable wise-ass, anti-hero in the spirit of a Han Solo. The problem isn't really his acting as much as he lacks the charm or charisma to make it work.

Hes believable in action scenes though. And I imagine girls don't mind looking at him.

I think the latest episode shows Tate making an incremental evolution into a better caregiver for Bo.

He started out as a pretty much clueless thug who was on the run after being in prison for over 15 years, now he's willing to steal a horse inorder to keep his daughter quiet (and safe).

Seems like some progress, to me.

Up to a point, Karate. However, some of just doesn't ring true when compared to the first half of the series.

Bo, as a character, has degraded some since the beginning of the series. She's lost much of her "fire", some called it brattiness, but there is a difference.

Character arcs are just that, an arc, hers just took a left turn somewhere.

Tate went to jail about 9.5 years ago if I recall correctly.

My suspicion is that Tate knew Nina was pregnant. I thought he seemed to be acting guilty when Bo was asking why he and Nina didn't stay together. Nina said she broke up with him because he wouldn't commit. That could mean he wouldn't commit to marriage when they got pregnant and/or he wouldn't commit to giving up his criminal ways to go legit and raise a family. It would surely cause Tate a lot of regret wondering what could have been different for Nina, Bo, and him if he had committed to their relationship.

An unlikable character does not equal bad acting, just as a likable character does not equal good acting. Tate is not supposed to be a very likable character at the start of the show because the writers obviously needed to give him room to grow throughout his character arc. As the show has progressed over the last two months he has obviously began to change into a better person as the result of taking on the role of Bo's father and protector.
