so what happened to the hardware store guy?

----- SPOILERS FOR LAST NIGHT'S SHOW (APRIL 27, 2014). READ NO FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET. ----

Okay, so Bo and her dad ride off into the sunset on the magnificent steed, right? But the hardware store owner is still driving the SUV or truck or whatever with the horse trailer in tow, and the police are hot on his trail, right behind him in fact, and calling for back-up. Then Bo and Dad arrive at the bad guy's mansion, so we know the horse made it back as agreed. Then we switch to the scene at the end where the hardware store owner is back in his shop to witness Bo and Dad talking with the mob boss's henchman about how the debt is settled. Great. But what happened with that chase scene between the police and the hardware guy that was abruptly edited away from? Did he get pulled over? Questioned? Ticketed? Arrested? Anything? How is it this show can go from a scene like that (police, hot pursuit), then mildly wrap up the episode with the scene on the street in front of the store, where everybody makes nice, with no mention of the police chase or any consequences to the store owner?

It's this kind of writing that drives me crazy. Having said that, however, does anyone have a theory as to why there's no mention of the chase at the final scene?

[Had to correct a typo, so this was edited a little.]

weak theory but the cop didn't get the guy's name, and the truck was probably rented, whatever. The horse/Bo/Tate was probably a big enough surprise that if the hardware store owner ditched the truck then it's plausible.

Never question the writers of this show, they are God :-)

/sarcasm off

What bothered me more is that Bo didn't do anything to solve the ORIGINAL problem of a failing business that led to the loan shark to begin with. Lottery numbers would have been nice.

Now THAT is an intelligent response! (No sarcasm, honest.) Thank you for that theory, but thank you even more for helping me with something that nagged me at the end of the show, but I couldn't put my finger on it. But you did! Why didn't Bo find a way to SAVE THE GUY'S FAILING BUSINESS? Sure, the debt was settled by the return of the horse, but now what? And this is a guy we really liked, with a sweet wife and great kids. Bo needs to do some kind of follow-up in the episodes to come to make sure this family man doesn't do something else stupid, like bargaining with the mob.

reply

You welcome. This show is basically a slow motion train wreck, I'm honestly going to be glad when it's over so the "throw something at the TV screen" moments go away.

I was really disappointed in Bo because she didn't catch that other problem. It made the whole horse thing completely pointless.

They did address the issue of Bo helping the guy any further. After they get him off the hook with the loan shark, Tate says to her they've done enough and whatever happens to him from then on was his responsibility. That makes sense. Bo used her gifts to get the guy out of imminent danger, but he's a grown man and a business man he should be able to take it from there. Even if he goes bust he should have learned bust is better than death by loan shark.

Thanks for the info. I'll rewatch the episode for clarity.

"Lottery numbers would have been nice."

I was thinking lottery numbers too, but I came to the conclusion that Bo can't turn her powers off and on when she wants ... at least not the psychic ability part of her powers.

As for the original problem ..... I believe Bo cared more about his life and his freedom (not going to jail for killing someone) rather than his business. However, now that Gary doesn't owe anything to anyone anymore, he can now focus deals and promotions for the customers of his store to help out with his financial problem before he dealt with the loan shark.

reply

I would agree up to a point, but the problem was that if it hadn't been for the loan shark, he would have closed a year ago.

This definitely falls on Bo. She should have done something else in addition.

reply

Maybe now he can close the store. Sell it and try something else. Without having to worry about the loan shark being on his butt all the time.

Like Tate arriving off the exploded boat two miles offshore in minutes dry as a bone.
