Fails as a parody, fails as drama

I expected it to be funnier...it tries too much to bash the Nazis and it looks lame, pretentious and forced...quite boring in places a very forgettable movie. The only jokes I liked was the story of Jew mind control leading to alcoholism gambling and cheating or the joke that everyone mocked Hitler in his youth that he would get them all killed. The kid actors were surprisingly good but the movie is too antifascist...

reply

Not surprised as this is from the same director that ruined Thor

reply

LMAO...THE FIRST TWO THOR FILMS ARE SOME OF THE WEAKEST MCU ENTRIES....THOR RAGNAROK WAS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR...BEST USE OF THE HULK IN A FILM YET AS WELL.HOW DO YOU RUIN SOMETHING BY IMPROVING IT?

reply

Yes. Totally ruined Thor. That's why Ragnarok has the highest score on RT. Both scores.

It was very funny at the start but after his face got scared I felt like it went downhill.

reply

Yep, it was as if as soon as he got blown up the movie tried to change and become serious. Was much more potential that just got buried in the Anne Frankish turn the movie took.

reply

Stick to Disney films.

reply

Well at least most Disney films start out with one goal in mind and stick to it. That was the problem wtih JoJo... it didn't know which direction it was going to start with. Was also poorly marketed because the trailers sold the audience on a comedy which it wasn't beyond the first small portion of the film.

reply

God this movie is SO pretentious. SO self-aware. So "Try-hard". I thought Scarlett did well, but the Hitler actor realllly sucked out loud. Almost like he was on stage at a high school play - he never made me laugh once. It was all like a c- attempt at a Wes Anderson film.

reply

Yes! Wes Anderson, but not as funny, not as artistically beautiful, not as clever, not as touching.

reply

I don't know, I quite enjoyed it.

reply

100% agree.
Such a huge disappointment, am a big fan of Taika Waititi, but this is just a pain to watch.

reply

It really does. What We Do In The Shadows was one of the funniest movies of recent memory. Hunt for the Wilderpeople was pretty good, but not at the same level. Thor Ragnarok is WWDITS was co-written an co-directed with Jermaine Clement. Could it be something like the Coen brothers - where together they are magic, but nothing special by themselves?
