shareWell, if it really still matters... he was rushing almost constantly during that scene. But essentially, he was just messing up horribly, varying in tempo, not just rushing. Nobody at a music conservatory, not even a mediocre drummer, would have played this badly. It's a movie, the main actor (who probably played the kit himself in this scene) is capable but no genius. He essentially just tried to "mess up" somehow audibly.
shareIt's interesting to know that he really was messing up. I'm not a drummer and like a lot of people, it all sounded the same to me and it sounded good. I wondered if Fletcher was just being a dick. I mean, he was being a dick even if the student was screwing up, but I mean, I wondered if he was just creul enough that he'd act that way even if students were good.
