What happened in the end? (Spoilers)
I was really drunk so I fell asleep when Ben Foster's character got shot in the head. What happened after that? I'm sad to miss the ending of this movie. Detail is greatly appreciated.

shareDude, you need to do your drinking after the film.
After Ben Foster's character was shot, Chris Pine's character went back to the homestead. In the final scene Jeff Bridges character comes and asks him why he did it. He knows that his brother was not intelligent enough to plan all this. Pine replies that his family has always been poor. It's like a disease that is passed down through the generations. But now his sons will not be poor because they own the ranch which is going to be producing $50,000 a month in oil revenues.
Thus he has provided for his sons. He then says if Bridges wants to come to his house and continue the discussion he's welcome because he'd like to get it done with. Bridges replies it will never be done and it will haunt him for the rest of his life. He then says it will haunt him also. Then Bridges gets in his car and drives away, and the credits roll.
Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar and doesn't.
What you seem to have missed was the subtext: Pine said something along the lines of "putting you at peace" at his new place in town, and then Bridges said "maybe, or maybe I'll put you at peace", which are just paper thin mutual threats of killing each other.
shareThat's not really what subtext means.
shareActually, that's exactly what subtext means;
sub·text
ˈsəbˌtekst
noun
an underlying and often distinct theme in a piece of writing or conversation.

BUT....will Bridges show up for a showdown? I think not.
shareI was curious about that too, but I agree, I don't think he will either. Though I got the impression he was almost suicidal since he was basically egging on the earlier confrontation at the farm while his pistol was tucked in his waistband inside his shirt. Maybe he thought if he was killed by Toby fellow LEO would investigate a little closer?
Either way, I feel that his decision to go to the farm, armed, and confront the surviving brother without any evidence and after he retired and was essentially a civilian, made him no better than Toby himself.
No, I don't believe he will. Killing Toby will not bring his partner back, so what's the use really ?
I didn't feel that way i felt that marcuss needed to confront toby his partner was killed and true it wasn’t toby that pulled the trigger but he was the master mind behind it. To marcuss toby may as well have pulled the trigger he was the one that asked a known murder to help him with robbing banks.
In the end he wanted to know why toby did it he knew he couldn’t do anything about it. He got his answer when tobys family showed up and toby revealed that he didn't live there anymore and the ranch belonged to his boys.
Marcus said "the things we do for our kids"
"Some of the worst things imaginable have been done with the best intentions"
Yep, things would be different if Toby had kept the money and had been living large now, but clearly that was not the case.
