What Was The Significance of The.... (SPOILERS)

big rattlesnake near the foot of the slumped over dead Tanner Howard? I was thinking authorities going to retrieve his body were in for a nasty surprise though apparently nothing happened.

He killed sixteen Czechoslovakians. Guy was an interior decorator.

I think it was sort of a way of showing he was doomed no matter what. Even if they hadn't shot him, the snake probably would have got him. Just a bad omen really, one last image to show his doom was set no matter what.

reply

To show that rattlesnakes exist in Texas. Just a device to further establish the atmosphere of the region.

It was also a call-back to the image of the rattlesnake on the "Don't Tread On Me" flag he had hanging in his trailer earlier in the film.

reply

I missed the Gadsden flag in the trailer but your answer makes a hell of a lot of sense. At least metaphorically. Tanner was treaded upon (banks, society, misfortune and what have you) yet in his spirit the rattlesnake remains alive and well.

Lol, you're dumb...

Alberto the cop referred to that nasty waitress as a 'rattlesnake' maybe the film was pointing out another nasty person, which he most certainly was.. he killed Alberto for no reason whatsoever

reply

I think it was just reference to the danger and chaos of the entire situation.
