Surprisingly Entertaining

"Life After Beth" is one of those movies that you have NO idea how you will like it, but because of the cast you just sit back and give it a shot. I am glad I did. This is about as different of a zombie movie that you will find. It is made on a small budget, but it features some very good to decent actors like John C. Reilly, Molly Shannon, Cheryl Hines, Paul Reiser, Matthew Gray Gubler, with a very cool cameo by Garry Marshall. The two leads are people I don't know anything about, but Aubrey Plaza plays the title character and Dane DeHaan is the lead. Simple story. Beth dies while hiking. And then she comes back a few days after the funeral. She doesn't remember anything and her parents (Reilly and Shannon) want to keep her in the dark about her death, and inside so no one can see her. Her boyfriend, DeHaan, finds out she is...alive, sort of, and this deals with second chances, and that sort of thing. As you can imagine things happen that kind of puts everything as they should be, and honestly the last 40 minutes really was good. If you are looking for a good, but different, zombie movie to add to your collection then this one will fit that bill. Some funny lines sprinkled here and there, a little bit of gore, but not much, and you end up with a surprising film to watch. Rent or buy when it comes out on DVD/BluRay, depending on how much of a zombie fan you are. ** 1/2 out of 4 stars.
