Back in the 1980s a horror comedy was filmed called MY BOYFRIEND'S BACK. I never saw the movie but I did see the preview and read the description. This feels like almost the same story but a gender reversal. Maybe another title could have been "My girlfriend's back"?

I've watched my boyfriends back. And as soon as I saw the previews for this that's that first thing I thought of. It's pretty much exactly the same. But hey, that was an entertaining movie, so we'll see.

Also, a crazy young Phillip Seymour Hoffman has a fairly big role in it and is hilarious as a dumb high school bully. Matthew McConaughey makes his movie debut with a bit part in a movie theatre. Matthew Fox has a major role here before he was Sexiest Man Alive or the star of LOST.
One of my favorite under-seen comedies. So this little indie zombie flick had two Oscar winners and the main star of one of the most popular TV shows of all time in it. Who woulda ever thunk it when they were filming it, I'm sure.
Also, the chick in that movie is a super hottie.
But yeah, I thought of it when I heard about Life After Beth. I've now seen both. Life After Beth was fine, but it's got nothing on My Boyfriend's Back.
