Were huge chunks of this movie cut out?

There's like no flow to the scenes, and they just cut from one scene to the next, with no feel of how much time has taken place between them. Especially the beginning.

It feels like there must be parts missing. Or maybe it's just poorly edited.

I noticed that too

also the sound editing is not the best because the music sometimes drowns out what the actors are saying and over all comes off as muddied.

Some interesting things going on in the movie but the overall final effort is a bit lacking. Its Jeff Baena's first directing gig. he might improve in time :)

I believe so. Alia Shawkat is listed in the cast, yet I don't recall seeing her in the film.

^ I don't remember this in the movie either.

Yes. Plenty of scenes got deleted, for some unknown reason because they looked pretty important to me. I guess Baena was afraid of making an indie horror comedy with a runtime of almost 2 hours.

All of the scenes (about 3) with the band were cut out, mostly them talking to Zach, checking up on him. There's a scene where Zach is just staring at the pool and smoking, which explains the following scene (in the final film) where his mom says he's been "pool-watching". The other scenes weren't essential but another 5-10 minutes wouldn't have hurt.

Maybe a longer cut in the future?

reply

It's an indie movie, highly unlikely.
