Didn't expect it to be "meh"

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. Just vaguely good. Not often I have a "meh" reaction to a zombie movie yet.

TWD is in the realm of "meh" nowadays but only after a great start. I was expecting comedy, but it wasn't very funny at all. Too poignant and sad to laugh at the jokes when they attempted to go for one... But not really sad enough where I have any real empathy for anyone.

It's like that In The Flesh series. Not bad, but not really enjoyable either. An entire cast wasted if you ask me.

I think you hit the nail on the head with this quote. If this movie was cast with even just the 2 leads and a bunch of nobodies it wouldn't have been as bad (in regards to wasted talent) but I mean this movie was basically a who's who of underrated and/or legendary comedic actors and we're just treated to scene after scene of mediocrity.

I totally agree with everything else you said as well, although I didn't know what to expect since I hadn't really seen a trailer for the movie (I know this sounds crazy bc I hear they are promo-ing the life out of it, but I don't really watch tv other than sports, every show I watch I download) and just watched it on a whim at the suggestion of a friend, which is funny bc if I KNEW it was a zombie movie going in I think I would've been a bit more let down (and less pleasantly surprised when that's the turn it took, I thought for a bit it might just be her only).

I gave it a 6 or maybe a few tenths more if we're being precise, nothing great & having watched it for free on a lazy cold Sunday PM I thoroughly enjoyed parts of it and didn't regret investing the 90 minutes, but honestly, if I had expectations like some of you did knowing the cast and that it was a zombie comedy (this didn't hold a candle to Zombieland) and saw it in the theater, I might've come away thinking 4.5-5.

Just knowing it was John C Reilly in it and Aubrey Plaza was enough to have me hooked, and the Dane Dehann versus Zombies was another hook. Plus Molly Shannon. And Cheryl. And the guy from Criminal Minds? as the crazy brother.

And the trailer was odd, but decent...

I'm right there with you. I don't really regret it. I went in for something better than Zombieland though, because by cast mathematics this should be funnier by far... There was no real payoff. I kept waiting for "it", thinking it'd be a Little Miss Sunshine type setup, where you'd get one big giant laugh they were saving up.

But it just ended, with a poof.

Their should have been more crazy brother, he was funny. I think the movie should have introduced the other zombies alot earlier once that happened it got much better in my opinion. What made me enjoy it though was the feeling it was not taking itself too seriously. You can tell the actors and actresses knew that.

Crazy brother felt like a character that belonged to another movie. Not saying that as an insult but there was just something really zany about him that almost didn't 'fit' with the rest of the movie.

I went in expecting it to be extremely lighthearted, but it had some real emotional weight which surprised me. It reminded me of 'Lars and the Real Girl' in that it was an idea that sounds goofy on paper, but becomes rather poignant on screen. There isn't all that much I can criticise it for tbh, it wasn't laugh out loud funny I suppose, but I don't think that was quite what they were going for anyway. It was a bit better than I thought it would be.
