Most of the major movie-monster archetypes were established in the 1930s, including zombies, and in '30s movie-monster lore zombies are created using Voodoo magic.

Actually Hatians have a long history of zombies. The word zombie is even derived from their language.

The deal plays against the normal zombie stereotype, whereby Haitians are usually into voodoo and zombies. The Haitians in this movie know nothing about voodoo, have got nothing to do with the zombie outbreak and in fact, themselves, are asking WTF is going on.🐭
