NO NO NO
Zero need to remake this gem
shareWHEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
shareI agree Jaspar; but since they are going to, why not cast Mel Brooks in the George Burns role? That would be perfect, in my opinion.
shareSince none of the character names are the same, I assume this version will be only loosely based on the plot of the original.
On remakes in general, though, remember that some films had already been remade 3 or 4 times before the silent era was over!

Sorry, I misspoke somewhat. What I meant to say was that the characters with *smaller* roles appear to have different names and/or occupations, implying that the main characters will be put in different situations and thus the plots of the new film should vary quite a bit from that of the 1979 one. (Make a bit more sense now?)

I will probably be curious enough to check out this remake, only because of the cast. I love the original but I cannot imagine the 2017 version topping it.

share(Ramon's voice): Hey, you crazy guys!
I agree with the OP. The original is a classic! One of the few DVD's I own.
If it's possible for 2 80 yr olds to have over-exposure, Alan Arkin and Morgan Freeman (the new Samuel L Jackson-in terms of movie frequency) are it!

shareAGREED!
shareThis is a remake? I knew not of the original, nor do I give a smeg.
Either way, it appears to be based on a novel, so it's not a remake, but another adaptation. An adaptation with Alan Arkin in it!

Requiescat in pace Pete Postlethwaite.
I found that they are making some "old guys commit one final big crime" movie every 10 years or so. For my generation it was Kirk Douglas' "Tough guys". An awesome movie in its own right.
I doubt there is any way to stop that trend. The only thing to look forward to is, 20 years down the line we can laugh about the next generation complaining how they want to remake THIS classic :)
