You don't remember that Return to Oz also started with Dorothy Gail escaping from a mental hospital before returning back to the fantasy world she left behind? Or you just never saw the movie and are saying that you don't remember?

Once you get past the insane asylum there is little that would suggest Carrol's story is similar to Baum's. If you wish to try this comparison remember who came first.
