why couldn't they JUST do an incredible Alice in Wonderland?

Does it annoy anyone else that we get a pretty solid remake of Jungle Book and now they're gonna do a faithful B and B but this awful lazy reimagining of Alice is the best they could do??

Come on.

Yeah, but it wasn't surprising; at this point, whenever Disney produces a "solid" movie it's never because of their efforts, but in spite of them. They have the means to do better, but they know that good films never recoup the cost of quality production. Right now, their films are only advertisements for their main source of income- Disneyland- so they only make the films as good as they have to be to sell tickets. At least there are still movies like Jan Svankmajer's stop motion Alice and the live action film Dreamchild that capture the essence of the novel and its more sinister undertones.

Alice in Wonderland does not need an updated version for a new audience. Although the original movie used older technology, the story and animation are still fresh to a new generation.

The "New Alice" movies are not remakes or reboots or a new vision of the books. They use the name to attract audiences, but the writing and production quality are very poor compared to the movies that Walt Disney produced.

Sometimes reboots make sense (for example from the original Star Trek to the Next Generation the science, stories, make-up, special effects, and acting improved remarkably). Some Disney movies were remade because they were great movies but were not Politically Correct.

This movie is a money grab.

I've been asking the same thing since 2010. Tim Burton could have done a perfect adaptation of the books, the sets and character design (except the Hatter) were all great. The flashback scene in the first film was the best part!
