I'll never trust the Oscars again.

Don't get me wrong: I enjoyed this movie, and wasn't expecting it to lose the Best Picture Oscar. It's just that SO MANY of my favorites lost the oscar. Kaguya lost to Big Hero 6 when I was expecting HTTYD 2 to win, and Wes Anderson lost three Oscars, ranking his snubs to 6. At least Boyhood and Whiplash got acting awards. At least best picture didn't go to Theory of Everything.

Forget it academy. Unless you fire that guy who thinks there are too many (cough) *beep* Chinese animated movies nominated (he's real, and it's recist and not true), I will stay away from your red carpet.

Do any of you agree with me?

I don't know man, i think this was one of the rare years where the oscars got it mostly right. I thought that all of the awards were well deserved and didn't feel that anyone got slighted (except jake gyllenhaal who wasn't even nominated, but i digress).

I think The Lego Movie got totally robbed. It was clever, witty, and well-done. Should have at least got a nomination.

reply

Oh yeah definitely, forgot that wasn't nominated either. One of my favorite movies of last year.

reply

I agree. With the exception of leaving out The Lego Movie, I thought they got most of the year right. And personally, I really fell in love with The Theory of Everything. I would have loved for it to beat Birdman, but the most important thing is that something beat Boyhood. Talk about 2.75 hours of my life I will never get back!

I disagree. I watched The Lego Movie and I can't see why anyone over 10 would be entertained by that movie. The only noteworthy thing it did was have Will Ferrell in a role where he's not an obnoxious man-child. The Oscars were right to snub The Lego Movie. I don't care how much money it made.

But I have to agree that Birdman is the one of the worst "Best Picture" winners I've seen. Its not even a bad movie. It's well made and does its job of wanting to be artsy and self-reflective. But its not something I'd ever care to watch again.

Shakespeare In Love beating out Lost In Translation.

Umm, Shakespeare in Love beat out Saving Private Ryan.

reply

Gandhi beating out E.T. for Best Picture. I still chafe over that.

Shakespear in Love was an outstanding movie. I really don't care much about Saving Private Ryan. So... I'll have to disagree on this. That year the best picture oscar was given to the right movie.

reply

hahahahaha, i personally loved the lego movie and is my 2nd favourite film of 2014, you know why? because it is more a comedy for ADULTS and not kids. It makes fun on media, politics, cliches, blockbusters. it is what i would call a dark comedy disguised as a kids film

I agree. The Oscars were surprisingly cogent this year.

How do you like them apples?

reply

That's not digressing at all. That's an answer to the question that he asked.

Honestly felt Whiplash was a better quality of movie while The Grand Budapest Hotel was my favorite and, imo, the most watchable and rewatchable. I was intrigued but the "no-cut-effect" Birdman had which seemlessly tied every scene together, but left unimpressed overall with the movie. The acting was great, just couldn't get invested into it. I kept asking myself how much more was left. Sorry not sorry.

reply

Song of the sea was way better than both

I stopped trusting the Oscars when Russel Crowe won....

Birdman is literally the best thing since sliced bread. Well deserved Oscar!

Your not trusting the Oscars really should've taken place when "Crash" won Best Picture!

Just watch what you watch. I'll let you in on a little secret; the Oscars don't really matter.
