I was kinda bored with unbroken. Not in this (which I didn't expect considering what they're both about).
I'd say this was better because it's not really been done before. Unbroken, although not the exact same story, has a few similar movies that you can already watch.
Also I don't know why you care what the Oscars say. These are the people that gave the Hurt Locker and Crash best film Oscars. They're idiots.
