Its a sequel
How is it a remake when the plot says it takes place 65 years after the events that happen in the original
Gamesystems never become obsolete if they are still fun to play

It can still be a remake. Look at Evil dead. Also why would they name it the same thing if it were a sequel?

Whatever it is, if it takes place in modern times, its gonna be a just another cookie cutter slasher flick with no appeal. If they did a David Fincher-esque production(ie Zodiac) set in the 40's, then it would be something to watch...

I am looking forward to this. I suspect that it will play out much like the original which is why they are calling it a remake, but It will be wrapped around a sequel. By that what I mean is that all the deaths and plot leading up to them will be pretty much shot for shot the original Maybe using a lot of flashbacks which just remakes the original while this is happening in the present deaths happen that are just like 64 years earlier.
It will be like a movie within a movie. I must admit though it sounds like part 2 more than a remake.
I have heard that it takes place at a drive in with the cast watching a movie based on the original murders. It sounds very fanboy if you know what I mean.
There comes a time to put away childhood things. But some things just won't stay put!
The original is partially a true crime film. The fact it's getting a sequel or modern remake is ridiculous. If it's a remake, it should be a period piece closer to the true story.

This is not a sequel nor a remake. It's a meta-remake. This means that the original movie exists in the film. It is about a killer being inspired by the real crimes by watching the annual showing of the '76 film at Spring Lake Park. Within the film, the true crimes are investigated and The Town That Dreaded Sundown is known to exist by the characters.
shareI can't wait for this. Is it theatrical though or DTV. I hope to god its not shot for the Sci Fi channel

It should be in theaters. This is made by a huge production company (MGM) and it's co-produced by today's leading Horror makers (Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions [Insidious, Paranormal Activity] and Ryan Murphy of Ryan Murphy Productions [American Horror Story]). The world premiere will be in Texarkana.
shareI guess I'm not surprised how many people are on this board solely to bitch about the fact that this movie is being made, but I think it sounds like an interesting setup for a sequel. The last thing we need is another generic remake/reboot.
shareTotally agree. I'm intrigued what Alfonso Gomez-Rejon can do with his first feature. Now just need some news or a trailer already.
If the original had a more suitable score and got rid of the humour, it would be more respected I feel.
There's room for something interesting here.
People should just be glad it's a sequel instead of a remake
